The square meter (symbol: sq m or m2) is the base unit of area in the International System of Units (SI). A square with all sides one meter long occupies the area of one square meter.

A square nanometer (symbol: sq nm or nm2) is a unit for measuring area. One is square nanometer is equal to the are of a square with all sides of one nanometer. One nanometer equals to one billionth (short scale) of a meter i.e. 0.000000001 m. One nanometer can be expressed in scientific notation as 1×10−9 m, and as 1/1000000000 meters.
