Celsius

The degree Celsius (symbol: °C) is a unit of temperature on the Celsius scale. Originally this scale was known as the centigrade scale. Even now many people refer degree Celsius as centigrade. The Celsius scale is named after Swedish astronomer Anders Celsius. He developed a similar temperature scale in 1742. Celsius is most widely used temperature scale in the world.

On this Celsius scale, 0 °C temperature represents the freezing point of water and 100 °C represents the boiling point of water at 1 atm pressure.

Fahrenheit

The Fahrenheit scale is a temperature scale. It is based on the original one proposed by the physicist Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit in 1724. It uses the degree Fahrenheit (symbol: °F) as the unit. Absolute zero is 0 K, −273.15 °C, or −459.67 °F. Fahrenheit is used in the United States as well as the Cayman Islands and Liberia for everyday applications. For example, U.S. weather forecasts, food cooking, and freezing temperatures are typically given in degrees Fahrenheit. Scientists, including meteorologists, use degrees Celsius or kelvin in all countries.
